Obituary: Richard L. Leggitt age 77, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2010.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margie. Also surviving are his children, Cynthia (Steven) Lehocky, Cammie (Leslie) Leggitt, Richard (Debbie) Leggitt, Gary (Paula) Leggitt and Diane (Ray) Ingram; grandchildren, Christina (Willie) Leggitt, Gary Leggitt, Heather (Ryan) Leggitt, Cynthia (Brent) Morningstar, Stephanie (Colin) Leggitt, Joshua Lee Leggitt and Amber Poeta; great-grandchildren, Kody Lee, Brody, Shae, Landen, Jersey, Phenoix and Harper; sister, Barbara (late John) Shephard; brothers, Herbert (Judy) Leggitt, Raymond (Jane) Leggitt and Gerald (Barbara) Leggitt; nieces, nephews and many dear friends and his dog, Babi.
Preceded in death by his parents, Cammie and Rose Marie Leggitt; his son, Rickie Leggitt and grandson, Little Richie.
Richard was born in Kirkwood, MO and moved to Gary at a young age. He was a graduate of Gary Edison HS and went on to attend Arizona State. He proudly served his country in the US Army 82nd Airborne, and retired in 1995 from US Steel after 35 years of service. Richard was a 43 year member of the American Legion Post 430, Merrillville, Gary Sportsman Club, US Steel Goodfellow Club. As an avid sportsman, his accomplishments were often penned in the Post Tribune. He enjoyed coaching little league for West Glen Park and Biddy Basketball in Gary and went on to umpiring.
Most of all, Richard enjoyed spending time with his family. Richard will always be remembered for his saying ‘I’d rather be running the bases’.
He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2010 11:00 AM at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel 7535 Taft Street Merrillville, IN with Rev. John Starr officiating.
Interment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville.
Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday, March 19, 2010 from 4-8 PM at the funeral chapel (located ¼ mile south of Calumet Park Cemetery).
